Explore new ways of leading, connecting, and being in community at the 9th annual Yoga Service Conference.

“Harmonious relationships require awareness, not agreement, so that barriers that result in misunderstanding, discord, and harm can be dissolved.” —Dr. Gail Parker

Join us for the 9th annual Yoga Service Conference and dive deep into an exploration of how to build a service-based leadership model in line with our values of inclusivity and equal access to yoga for all.

The era of top-down leadership is ending. New ways of leading are evolving, and we believe that the yoga service model holds tremendous potential for creative and collaborative opportunities. With its unique combination of yoga practice, conscious relationship, and self-reflection/self-inquiry, yoga service encourages a horizontal leadership model that’s truly collaborative and emergent.

At the Yoga Service Council, we are experimenting with a new leadership model: we currently have two people sharing the executive director role. At this year’s conference, copresented by the Yoga Service Council and Omega Institute, we explore the idea of a service-based model of leadership in keynote talks, breakout workshops (each cofacilitated by two people), Common Interest Community Group gatherings, and a Saturday evening community-building party.

You do not need to be a yoga teacher to join us—social workers, health care providers, school teachers, counselors, therapists, and others will find the resources, inspiration, and support necessary to make yoga and mindfulness practices inclusive, effective, sustainable, and accessible to all.

Choose one of the three Preconference Intensives on May 15. Then, join the full conference to:

  • Network and build community
  • Learn leadership skills and strategies
  • Discover how to build a sustainable service-based practice
  • Explore the relationship between neuroscience and trauma
  • Develop and maintain a self-care practice
  • Learn about the expanding role of research in yoga

You also have the opportunity to attend roundtable discussions with Yoga Service Council advisors and board members.

You leave the conference with a renewed sense of purpose as a member of a dynamic community working for individual and collective change—and a new way of looking at what it means to be a service-based leader.

3) Skill in Action
Michelle Johnson and Kerri Kelly
Yoga & Social Justice
Course 1201-241/Tuition $95 ($85 Members)

In these trying times, we need spaces to truth tell, grieve, learn, heal, and build skills. None of us can escape the effects of white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism. It is time for all of us to be part of creating a just world. Michelle Johnson and Kerri Kelly offer this workshop in the spirit of sharing collective space to wade through what arises when we speak truth from our social location or embodied racial identities.

We explore the intersection of contemplative practices (mindfulness, movement, and yoga) and justice through a dharma talk, discussion, meditation, partner and group work, race-based caucusing, movement, and breath work.

We discuss spiritual bypassing, social location, and mindful action in order to deepen our understanding of how we can engage with spiritual practice to respond to the cultural context. We also learn strategies to create liberation and how to organize and build power.

Michelle JohnsonMichelle Cassandra Johnson (she/her) is a yoga teacher, social justice activist and licensed clinical social worker who has been leading anti-racism trainings for over 23 years.
