The basic teachings and practices of Buddhism can enrich your life—even if you don’t think of yourself as a Buddhist.

Learn what Buddhism has to say about living a wise and awakened life from of two non-Buddhists and a practicing Buddhist teacher. Christian McEwen and Donna M. Johnson share their personal experiences with how Buddhism has helped them and how it can help you. Zen teacher Ji Hyang Padma provides an introduction to basic Buddhist teachings and meditation techniques.

Through sharing stories, writing and drawing exercises, and Buddhist teachings and meditation instruction, you learn to develop compassion for yourself and others, slow down, be more perceptive and present, and reflect on your experiences as a way to learn how they can provide understanding and meaning in your everday life.

Christian McEwen is author of World Enough and Time. She has also edited four anthologies, including Jo’s Girls: Tomboy Tales of High Adventure, and has written for The Nation and The Village Voice. Born in London, McEwen grew up in Scotland and currently lives in Northampton, Massachusetts. 

Donna M. Johnson

Donna M. Johnson is the author of Holy Ghost Girl, an award-winning memoir acclaimed by the New York Times; O, The Oprah Magazine; and the New York Journal of Books. She writes about spirituality, family, and culture for the Shambhala Sun, Huffington Post, The Rumpus, the Psychology Today blog, and other publications. 

Ji Hyang Padma

Ji Hyang Padma teaches at Babson College and is a frequent resident meditation teacher at Omega. She has been practicing and teaching Zen for 20 years, integrating her Buddhist practice with psychology counseling.
