Description

This workshop is by application only.  Please see More Information below for details.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an innovative program designed to prevent relapse in people who have recovered from unipolar depression. Based on the research of Drs. Zindel Segal, John Teasdale, and Mark Williams, and documented in their book Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression, this professional training combines the practice and clinical application of mindfulness meditation with the tools of cognitive therapy.

Through role-playing, simulated classroom, and patient-practitioner encounters, we learn to apply mindfulness practices in teaching MBCT to clients. Throughout the week, we explore the importance of the clinician’s own meditation practice and self-inquiry, especially how to bring the self-knowledge gained through sustained meditative practice to bear on helping clients in emotional distress.

The heart of this work lies in encountering modes of mind that often characterize mood disorders, while simultaneously learning to develop a new relationship to these modes. This rigorous course blends didactic, experiential, and small group learning, and includes daily meditations, yoga, and periods of silence.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be better able to:

  • Discuss the importance of meditation practice and self-inquiry through the application of mindfulness practices.
  • Define the role of sustained meditative practice in facilitating emotion regulation and increasing the quality of patient outcomes
  • Demonstrate how the therapist/instructor's self-knowledge contributes to the integration of awareness practices within a psychotherapy frame.
  • Describe the origins and rationale behind MBCT

Enrollment is by application* only, is limited to 50, and requires a $10 nonrefundable application fee (payable to Omega). See More Information below for details.
