The Omega Women’s Leadership Center celebrates the life and legacy of
Dr. Beverley Salmon (1930-2023).
Beverley Salmon was Toronto’s first Black female city councilor, and an activist, mother, wife, and trailblazing changemaker. Known for her warmth, humility, kindness, and courage, Beverly served 12 years as both North York City and Metro Toronto Councilor, where she was a pioneer and advocate for more inclusive policies in municipal government. Her involvement in the fight for Civil Rights guided her toward activism and inclusive policy changes, emphasizing human rights and racial justice.
Dr. Bev Salmon redefined political leadership, even in the face of resistance. She was awarded the Order of Ontario in 2016 and the Order of Canada in 2017. She embodied what it means to #DoPowerDifferently, leaving a legacy of strength and grace for the generations to come.
