When a companion or loved one is living with dementia, knowing what your own life skills are—as well as what their life skills are—can empower and enrich both of your lives.
Guided by Judy Cornish, founder of the Dementia and Alzheimer's Wellbeing Network (DAWN®) and creator of the DAWN Method®, you participate in open discussions, learning circle questions, and role-play exercises in order to:
- Deepen your understanding of human cognitive skills and learn which are retained and which are lost with dementia
- Learn to recognize the emotional needs that develop when cognitive skills decline
- Explore a variety of ways for helping to manage moods with dementia
- Discover communication tools to help people living with dementia express themselves in conversation and nonverbally
Leave with a new understanding of dementia, how it changes our ability to function and interact, and with new skills for living with and supporting someone who is experiencing dementia.
