Elise Loehnen is the New York Times best-selling author of On Our Best Behavior: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Price Women Pay to be Good and the host of the podcast Pulling the Thread, where she interviews cultural luminaries about the big questions of today, including people like Joy Harjo, John and Julie Gottman, Dr. Gabor Maté, and Esther Perel. In addition to On Our Best Behavior, she is the author of a corresponding workbook—Choosing Wholeness Over Goodness—with coach Courtney Smith and the coauthor of True & False Magic with legendary psychiatrist Phil Stutz.
In addition to the above, Elise has cowritten 14 books, including five New York Times best sellers. Previously, she was the chief content officer of goop. While there, Elise cohosted The goop Podcast and The goop Lab on Netflix, and led the brand’s content strategy and programming. For the podcast, she interviewed hundreds of thought leaders, doctors, and experts, including Bryan Stevenson, Nicholas Kristof, and Rebecca Traister. Prior to goop, she was the editorial projects director of Conde Nast Traveler. Before then, she was the editor at large and deputy editor of Lucky Magazine, where she also served as the on-air spokesperson. She has a bachelor’s degree from Yale and majored in English and fine arts.
Originally from Missoula, Montana, it's important to Elise that people know that she went to the National Mathletes Championship when she was in eighth grade and that she’s a horse whisperer. These days, she serves on two boards (Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and Skinfix), advises multiple beauty companies (Arcaea, MECCA Australia), and spends her time writing, reading, and fundraising for causes and politicians focused on environmental action, women and children’s health, and a more equitable world.
