Two seconds. That is the time it takes for the brain to dissolve old neural networks—and this discovery is changing how we think about transformation.
As memory reconsolidation enters the public sphere, it has finally shed some light on the science behind what some call “transformational change” (akin to the idea of a therapeutic breakthrough). Through decades of research, neuroscientists have now identified what specific experiences the brain needs in order to unlock this deepest form of neuroplasticity and thereby profound change.
In this 90-minute session, Dr. Tori Olds walks you through the nuts and bolts of memory reconsolidation and:
- How the brain has three requirements for transforming neural imprints at their root
- How neural networks (imprints) originally get installed through trauma or childhood experiences and impact our adult experience of life
- How experiential therapies (such as Internal Family Systems or IFS) can unlock emotional memory and thereby facilitate memory reconsolidation
- Some practical advice on how to engage in this deep level of unlearning
This workshop will outline the cutting edge of the field of psychology. That being said, anyone who is interested in more deeply understanding the human experience is welcome.
