Julie Cerel, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and a professor in the College of Social Work at the University of Kentucky (UKCOSW). Cerel directs the Suicide Prevention & Exposure Lab at UKCOSW. Her research focuses on suicide exposure/bereavement with 75+ academic publications.
Cerel is past-president of the American Association of Suicidology and the coauthor of Seeking Hope: Stories of the Suicide Bereaved. She is currently the principle investigator of the military suicide bereavement study funded by the Military Suicide Research Consortium from the U.S. Department of Defense. She also serves as board chair and research division chair for the American Association of Suicidology.
