Eliza Swann, also known as Emerald, is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and educator specializing in alchemy and esoteric traditions. They are the author of The Anatomy of the Aura, Green Mary, and The Alchemical Imagination. Their essays and critical writing have appeared in prominent publications such as BOMB, Arthur, Contemporary Art Review LA, Momus, and Perfect Wave. Eliza has also contributed to key anthologies including Witchcraft (Taschen) and Modern Witches (Weiser).
Since 2018, they have taught literature and alchemy at Pratt Institute and served as the 2023 lecturer-in-residence at the Philosophical Research Society, leading talks on alchemy and esoteric traditions. With formal art training from the San Francisco Art Institute and Central Saint Martins, alongside lifelong engagement with herbalism and esoteric healing, Eliza brings a deeply integrated approach to alchemy. As founder of The Emerald School of Alchemical Arts and Golden Dome, they cultivate vibrant communities that unite healing, mysticism, and creative expression—inviting students to experience alchemy as a living, transformative path.
