Miranda Massie is the founding director of the Climate Museum. She left a career in social justice litigation to launch the museum, which in 2018 had its breakout year of programming and in late 2024 secured a permanent home. With her team, Miranda has pioneered an approach to climate engagement that blends culture and activism, empowering visitors who are worried about climate change but unsure what to do. 

Miranda’s prior honors as a civil rights litigator include Fletcher Foundation, W.E.B. Dubois Institute, and Harvard Law School Wasserstein Public Interest Fellowships, as well as a mentorship-in-residence at Yale Law School. Miranda has spoken about the power of arts and cultural programming for climate engagement at venues including Art Basel and the Guggenheim Museum. She has been featured in publications including the New York Times and The New Yorker. She is a Public Voices Fellow with the OpEd Project and the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.

Her guest teaching engagements include the master’s programs in architecture at RISD, and arts administration and policy at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Miranda is active in international coalitional work on climate and culture. She has served on many international arts and design juries. Her editorial and advisory board roles include The Journal of Climate Action, Research, and Policy and the Woodwell Artists’ Residency.
