Susan Stover is a San Francisco Bay Area artist who creates paintings and sculptures that explore themes of cultural identity and mythology. Having studied many aesthetic traditions from around the world, she embraces ritual, tradition, and meditation inherent in repetitive processes.

Originally from the midwest, Susan Stover received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and her master in fine arts from California College of Art in Oakland. Both of her degrees concentrated in textiles and painting. She has taught extensively including workshops in Australia, India, Italy, France, Mexico and throughout the United States.

Susan’s work often combines traditional textile techniques such as basketry, stitching, batik, and indigo dyeing with encaustic and other paint mediums. She is interested in creating work that has historical and cultural reference at the same time bringing it into a personal and contemporary context. Her inspiration comes from traveling and immersing herself in other cultures, absorbing the colors and textures of a place and learning about local artisan traditions. She is represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, New York and Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, California.
