Art as Spontaneous Symmetry

By Donna Mikkelsen and Kathleen Laucius

Omega's Sr. Director of Creative and Art Curator, Kathleen Laucius first discovered artist Donna Mikkelsen creating a 92-foot-long artwork at a construction site in Beacon, New York. The work elicited joy in passersby, complete with honking horns, waves, smiles, and visits from community members.

Kathleen couldn't wait to find out more about Donna's ambidextrous and spontaneous approach to art making—an approach that is accessible for people 9 months to 95 years old—and recently sat down with her at her studio in Beacon.
