This 5-day workshop is a fantastic way for artists to free themselves of tightness or restrictive ways of working. The monotype is basically a "squashed painting," which is liberating in its approach.
In this unique art-making workshop led by master printmaker Dan Welden, you learn:
- Skills in observation and awareness
- How to accept the unexpected
- How to handle pigments through brush and crayon, pencil and stick, along with a variety of mark-making tools
- Painting monotypes on plexiglass and transferring them to fine paper
Dan has two etching presses available with daily demonstrations on creativity, inking, wiping, and printmaking tricks that may be applied to your own art-making. You also learn hands-on use of a press to make fine art impressions.
Each morning begins with a quiet session, followed by teaching and interactive questions. Following lunch each day is the open studio residency portion, where you have the opportunity to do your own work. You produce from five to 25 works on paper, spontaneous and planned, analytical and emotional. Dan works with you side-by-side and demonstrates, planting seeds of creativity and process.
