Join celebrated singer-songwriter Jimmie Dale Gilmore in the exploration of songwriting as a tool for increasing self-awareness and social connection. The workshop is based on Jimmie Dale's view that "The great purpose of music is to bring people together. It can become a bridge not only between friends, but also between strangers and even enemies. Music and dance are a way for adults to become kids again."
Whether you are an aspiring or advanced songwriter, Jimmie Dale cultivates a beneficial environment of collaboration for all songwriters as a means to access insight, perspective, and motivation for your creativity.
During the 5-day retreat, participants write songs in small groups, explore and refine their process through discussions with the larger group, and have the opportunity to perform their brand-new songs at a campus concert.
Together, we examine what makes songs such an essential and potent part of human communication. In a supportive setting, everyone is encouraged to interact both as participant and observer in the creative process.
A small amount of time is given to discussion of the business and technical aspects of songwriting.
All are welcome to attend. It is not a prerequisite to play an instrument or to sing.
