In addition to his 26 books on nature and science, Gary Ferguson has written for a variety of periodicals, from the Los Angeles Times to Vanity Fair. His lead essay for Orion—titled "A Deeper Boom"—was selected by the American Society of Journalists and Authors as the Best Essay of 2016.
Ferguson lectures around the country on the ecological and psychological values of nature. He is also the cofounder—along with his wife, social psychologist Dr. Mary M. Clare—of the environmental program “Full Ecology.”
From 2006-2016, he was on the faculty of the Rainier Writing Workshop MFA program at Pacific Lutheran University. His most recent book is The Eight Master Lessons of Nature.
