India.Arie

India.Arie went from “singing under a tree in the park” to the Grammy Awards stage in five years.

Since 2001, India.Arie has sold 10 million albums and won four Grammy Awards from a total of 21 nominations. She is also cofounder of the Atlanta-based independent music collective Groovement EarthShare, and Soulbird, her lable imprint.

Her first CD, Acoustic Soul, was released on March 27, 2001 and debuted at number 10 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Within months, without the concentrated radio airplay that typically powers pop and rap albums, Acoustic Soul was certified double platinum, selling 2,180,000 copies in the United States and 3,000,000 copies worldwide.

Her fifth and latest CD, SongVersation, is a compelling snapshot of her hard-won breakthrough to simultaneous personal and artistic growth. Her other CDs are Voyage to India (2002); Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship (2006); and Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics (2009).

Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship, gave India.Arie her first number-one spot on the Billboard 200 list. This album was also the first number-one album for Motown in 12 years.

India.Arie has performed with a variety of renowned musicians, including Adele, John Mellencamp, Casandra Wilson, Stevie Wonder, and Anthony David.

In the fall of 2010, she was a featured guest vocalist on Carlos Santana's version of The Beatles classic song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on his Guitar Heaven CD. The song also features Yo-Yo Ma on cello.
