Lila Kate Wheeler

Lila Kate Wheeler started practicing yoga when she was 12 and Buddhist meditation at age 21. Her practice is fed and sustained by several Buddhist and Hindu meditative traditions. In 1988 she traveled to Burma to be ordained as a nun, giving up her robes during the rioting that year. She has practiced at Dharma centers in the United States, Europe, and Asia, including a monthlong retreat in a cave in Northern India.

Lila Kate Wheeler began teaching the Dharma during the 1980s, and is authorized to share teachings of Vipassana or Insight and Tibetan Vajrayana. Under her name "Kate," she has won numerous writing awards for fiction, spiritual essays, and travel journalism, including a Guggenheim award and a Radcliffe Fellowship in 2008.
