Shannon Sexton

Shannon Sexton is a writer, editor, and digital content strategist who has studied with Pandit Rajmani Tigunait and other senior teachers at the Himalayan Institute while living and working at the ashram for nearly a decade. A regular contributor to Yoga Journal, she is the former editor-in-chief of Yoga International, an award-winning magazine that USA Today called “the Bible of yoga practice” and Slate dubbed “ethereally serious.” At that time, the magazine (which has recently been revamped into an e-learning website) showed how yogic principles apply to today’s most pressing issues—from war and politics to environmental activism and social justice—exploring how ancient spiritual wisdom can be a force for change in the modern world.

Shannon Sexton has published features, literary profiles, and service journalism in five magazines in the United States and India. Her health articles earned a 2004 Public Education Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and her poems and creative nonfiction have been anthologized in six books, including the award-winning series Stories from Where We Live.
