Steve Kanji Ruhl

Rev. Steve Kanji Ruhl, MDiv, is an innovative Zen Buddhist minister ordained in the Zen Peacemaker Order by Roshi Bernie Glassman, and a lay Zen dharma holder and preceptor authorized by Roshi Eve Myonen Marko. He teaches Zen students to “be clear, be kind, be present” through training in koans, precepts, and shikantaza meditation.

Reverend Kanji has been a guest speaker at Harvard’s Center for World Religions, Yale Divinity School, the International Conference on Socially Engaged Buddhism, and elsewhere. Trained by Zen teachers in Japan and at major Zen centers in the United States, he received his Master of Divinity degree from Harvard University. He also has served as a Buddhist adviser at Yale University, where he guest teaches, and is a core faculty member in the Spiritual Guidance program at The Rowe Center.

Reverend Steve Kanji Ruhl has been featured in articles in Tricycle: The Buddhist Review and EnlightenNext magazine and is a contributing author to the book The Arts of Contemplative Care: Pioneering Voices in Buddhist Chaplaincy and Pastoral Work and author of a recently published volume of selected poems, The Constant Yes of Things.
