Timothy McCall, MD, is a yogi, meditator, and the codirector of the Simply Yoga Institute in Summit, New Jersey. He is author of Yoga as Medicine: The Yogic Prescription for Health and Healing, medical editor for Yoga Journal, and coeditor of The Principles and Practice of Yoga in Health Care, a medical textbook on yoga therapy.

McCall is a board certified internist who practiced medicine for more than 10 years before devoting himself full time to writing, research, and teaching. His articles have appeared in dozens of publications, including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, The Nation, and the Los Angeles Times. From 1996-2001 his medical commentaries were featured on the public radio program Marketplace. He has also been a guest on numerous national radio and television programs.

McCall has traveled extensively and studied with many of the world’s leading yoga teachers and yoga therapists, including B.K.S. Iyengar, T.K.V. Desikachar, Patricia Walden, and Donald Moyer. He has practiced yoga and meditation from various traditions for over 20 years and Tantra for more than a decade. Since 2005, he has studied with traditional Ayurvedic doctor Chandukutty Vaidyar in Kerala, India.

He teaches Yoga As Medicine (YAM) seminars worldwide, as well as YAM teacher trainings, workshops, and classes at their yoga therapy center in Summit, New Jersey.
