Vanessa McGann

Vanessa McGann, PhD, is a clinical psychologist specializing in grief and loss in children, adolescents, and adults. She has a focus in traumatic loss, particularly loss to suicide, and has specific training in the treatment of complicated bereavement.

McGann also has extensive experience in treatments for anxiety, depression, and suicidal behaviors in children, adolescents, and adults. In her work, McGann utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior treatment (DBT) and insight-oriented psychotherapy, as well as short- and long-term treatment models—depending on the specific needs of the individual.​

McGann’s practice also focuses on helping adolescents transition to emerging adulthood and developing strong identities to master the challenges of this developmental stage. She has had extensive experience with college students and, in addition to her private practice, is on staff as the assistant director of extern training at the New School college counseling center.
