When knees ache, it’s a pain. We rely on our knees for nearly every movement—walking, standing, rising from a chair, and enjoying favorite activities such as yoga, hiking, or fitness classes. Knee-care programs tend to focus on the upper leg, but in this 2-hour Teachers Studio, you discover a path to healthy, comfortable knees that starts below—in the feet, ankles, and lower leg.
Join biomechanist Katy Bowman as she explores how your lower leg influences knee comfort, strength, and alignment. You discover how neglected areas—from the calf and shin muscles to the stabilizers of the kneecap—play a vital role in how your knees feel and move.
Through clear instruction, guided movement, and alignment-based exercises, you:
- Discover how the feet, calves, and shins shape knee alignment and comfort
- Learn reliable anatomical markers for balancing the knee joint from the ground up
- Develop positional adjustments to take the tension off the kneecap for common yoga poses
- Explore lower-leg corrective exercises to improve mobility, stability, and strength
- Reimagine knee care as a whole-leg practice—starting from the floor and rising up
You leave with practical tools to bring “spring” back into your step and a deeper understanding of how to move in a way that keeps your knees strong and happy for years to come.
Equipment needed: Two blocks, a strap, two tennis balls in a sock/therapy balls in a tote, and a blanket.
