Michelle Cassandra Johnson

Michelle Cassandra Johnson (she/her) is a black woman who has been leading anti-racism trainings for over 23 years. She is an author, yoga teacher, social justice activist, licensed clinical social worker, and Dismantling Racism trainer. Michelle worked with Dismantling Racism Works (dRworks) as a lead trainer for 20 years. 

She approaches her life and work from a place of empowerment, embodiment, and integration. With a deep understanding of trauma and the impact that it has on the mind, body, spirit, and heart, much of her work focuses on helping people better understand how power and privilege operate in their life. 

As a licensed clinical social worker she specialized in working with people exploring racial identity issues and/or recovering from trauma. Michelle brings extensive experience in the nonprofit/government sectors, including her work on the staff of the Orange County Rape Crisis Center, the Mental Health Association, the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools, the Center for Equity and Inclusion, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. 

She served on the Carrboro Board of Aldermen for six years and served on several boards of community-based nonprofits.
