Mahjong tile in someone's hand

Discover mindfulness and community through mahjong. Learn strategies, boost cognitive wellness, and find your zen in the tiles.

Elva and Jami explain how Mindful Mahjong has a place for everyone.

Step into the world of American mahjong through an immersive experience that blends hands-on learning, strategic play, mindfulness, and connection. Whether you’re picking up tiles for the first time or ready to elevate your game, you learn through interactive clinics, guided table play, and real-time practice.

A unique mentor mixer brings beginners and experienced players together, creating opportunities to share skills, build confidence, and form meaningful connections. Beyond the table, mindfulness sessions offer practical techniques to reduce stress and sharpen focus. You leave with stronger mahjong skills, fresh strategies, greater confidence, and the inspiration to bring the joy, camaraderie, and sense of community home with you.

In this retreat, Elva and Jami are joined by Diane Barnett and Catherine Barrett of Grounded Meditation, certified mindfulness and meditation specialists with expertise in emotional regulation, healthy seated habits, and competition stress reduction. Together, the team creates an unforgettable, multigenerational experience that blends strategic mental play with deep, mindful restoration.

Who Should Attend? All levels are welcome. Whether you’re curious about mahjong and ready to learn or already love the game and want to sharpen your skills, this retreat is designed for you. Choose from two tracks: a welcoming bootcamp for beginners learning the game from the ground up, or an immersive strategy lab for experienced players ready to take their game to the next level.

What You Experience

Beginners
Progress through Mahjong 101, 102, and 103 as you learn the essentials of American mahjong in a welcoming, hands-on setting. Get comfortable with the tiles and suits, learn to navigate the National Mah Jongg League card, master the Charleston, and build the skills and confidence to sit down and play a full game on your own.

Advanced Players
Take your game deeper with the defensive mindset. Learn to read the table, interpret discards, calculate hand-section probabilities, anticipate your opponents’ moves, and master the art of the pivot—knowing when and how to change course as the game unfolds.

All Levels
Discover how mindfulness can transform your experience at the table. Practice the “10-second reset” for high-pressure moments, develop tools for greater focus and emotional regulation, and learn healthy ergonomic habits that support comfortable, enjoyable play. Leave feeling more present, confident, and connected—both on and off the mahjong table.
